About Us

This user group had been established for a number of years to help grow the PostgreSQL community here in Sydney. The group activity had rapidly declined as support from certain commercial parties had been dropped. The group has recently been re-established in April 2013 as a completely independent group for the benefit of the open-source community.

A Place to Learn

The Sydney PostgreSQL User Groups primary purpose is to provide a free environment where we can all gather together and share practical examples on how we can use PostgreSQL in real situations.

Free from Commercial Influence

Although the Sydney PostgreSQL has sponsors and accepts donations, the environment prohibits "plugging" any products or services in any events. Non-compliance will have the member banned for life. Educational institutions and non-profit organisations may promote their organisation providing that they present to the group and add value to our members.

International Audience

Most of our events will be recorded and the slides will be available on our website to members. We welcome all international PostgreSQL users to join us and contribute to discussions or write articles that can be posted on our web site or published in the Sydpug Newsletter.

From the President

I am committed to ensuring that the Sydney PostgreSQL User Group becomes a great success and I am hoping to have thousands of members who can share their experiences with one of the most advanced and underpromoted databases around.
